Extensibility and Integration

Do you want to license a particular machine? If so, how many hardware changes will you accept before a license becomes invalid? Do you want to license a user? Or on a web application, license by domain or virtual application? How about using a USB network adapter as an inexpensive hardware dongle by looking at it’s MAC address?

With the Desaware Licensing System, if you can come up with code to retrieve characteristics you want to license, we can license it. Not only that, but the algorithms used to compare these characteristics (or identifiers, as we call them) – to decide whether or not two sets of identifiers correspond to the same license – can be redefined as well.

Modules, features and Metadata

Do you want to define features that can be enabled or disabled for a given installation code? If so, how many do you need – 10? 20? What data types would you like to store – text with module names? Numbers of allowed users? Dates indicating trial lengths?

When it comes to embedding this type of data in a license, the Desaware Licensing system isn’t particular. Whether it’s text, numbers, dates, Boolean flags or your own user defined objects – as long as it can be serialized to XML, we can store it and embed it into the license certificate for use by the client.

But it’s not enough to just be able to store the data – you’ll want a way to define and manage it as well. Use the server API to define the data, create a server-plugin to define it on the fly when licenses are granted or installation codes created, or create a license manager plug-in that allows you to manage your data directly from within the license manager application.
