Desaware Press ReleaseDesaware, Inc. Announces the Release of the Desaware Licensing System for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and Visual Studio .NET 2003Campbell, CA - 24, June 2003 -- Desaware announced the release of its latest product offering for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and Visual Studio .NET 2003, the Desaware Licensing System. Built to take advantage of unique security features in the .NET Framework such as strong named assemblies and XML signatures, the Desaware Licensing System relies on end to end cryptographic techniques, avoiding the use of hidden files, registry entries and other traditional licensing schemes. A selection of the new features in this product include:
The Desaware Licensing System is designed for per-machine licensing of applications or components. Installation codes are generated on a server for use during installation of Microsoft .NET Framework-based applications and components. During activation, the code is verified by the server before it issues a licensing certificate bound to the client machine. The Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 technology prevents techniques traditionally used to avoid licensing (modifying programs or substituting alternate licensing code). XML signatures prevent modification of the certificate, and certificates will only work on the machine for which they are created. The server controls how many systems each installation code supports, allowing for licensing multiple machines using a single installation code. The result is hardware quality security, without the use of external hardware. "Microsoft is excited that Desaware has released this important product to the Visual Studio .NET developer community," said John Montgomery, director for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "The new Licensing System will help strengthen the security measures in the .NET Framewrok to prevent nonlicensed use of applications." The Desaware Licensing System sells for $1495 (includes one developer and one server license) per developer. Multiple unit discounts and site licenses are available. Additional licenses are $495 per developer and $1000 per server license. A server can license an unlimited number of applications. Please contact Desaware for source code licensing.
